GCPA Announces Brett Kruse as 2026 MOELLER SUGG IMPACT AWARD Recipient

Austin, TEXAS, March 2, 2026- The Gulf Coast Power Association (GCPA) Board of Directors proudly announces Brett Kruse as the recipient of the prestigious Moeller Sugg Impact Award for 2026. This award honors individuals who have made a significant and demonstrable impact within the MISO(Midcontinent Independent System Operator) and SPP (Southwest Power Pool) markets. The award will be presented during GCPA's 12th Annual MISO-SPP Regional Conference on February 23-24, 2026, at the Sheraton New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Brett A. Kruse is Vice President of Market Design for Calpine Corporation, a business unit of Constellation. In this role, he has been responsible for Calpine's interests in ISO-NE/NEPOOL, MISO, SPP, NYISO, and PJM for both market and reliability interests, NERC policy, and holds or has held seats on major committees in each of those markets. He is an industry veteran with 40 years of experience in power plant operations and management, Balancing Area system operations and transmission management, asset management, wholesale electricity market design, compliance, and regulatory affairs.

Throughout his distinguished career, Kruse served on the SERC Board of Directors for 14 years, has served as Calpine's representative with ReliabilityFirst since its creation, and served on the SPP Board/Members Committee for 7 years. He has extensive experience across multiple regions including NPCC, MRO, ERCOT, and WECC. He currently holds a seat on the NERC Reliability and Security Technical Committee (RSTC) and serves on the congressionally-mandated NERC Inter-regional Transfer Capability Study (ITCS) Advisory Group.

Kruse has been on teams responsible for development of over 7,200 MW of thermal, wind, solar, and storage developments representing capital investments of approximately $4.6 billion, as well as M&A activity on over 6,800 MW of generation representing a capital outlay of approximately $3.5 billion. Prior to joining Calpine in early 2001, he held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility at Carolina Power & Light/Progress Energy, the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), and Reliant Energy.
