GCPA MISO Special Briefing Aug 2015

"Gulf Coast Disaster Readiness: A Past, Present and Future Look at Power and Industry Readiness in MISO South"

GCPA is expanding our offerings in Louisiana. Our attendees responded with enthusiasm to our second event in New Orleans in February 2015 and the post event survey asked us to do more…so here we are.  This special briefing brings a different topic, Gulf Coast Weather Disaster Readiness.  In fact, we’ll look at this from three time periods (past, present and future) and from two perspectives (Power and Industry) all here in MISO South.

The morning starts with a Louisiana retrospect on Katrina and lessons learned as we hear from both the Louisiana PSC Chairman and from Entergy. We transition to a discussion on the operational and financial lessons learned from Katrina and other weather disasters. Our planned lunch keynote is Louisiana US Senator Bill Cassidy. After lunch we move into the challenges facing both utilities and industry as they plan and prepare for future weather related events. How will weather forecasting change? What role will government play? How do utilities and industry coordinate? Experts will fill us in on all of these challenges. The program closes by looking at technology tools used to improve reliability.  But we also consider how using technology can also bring its own issues in cybersecurity.

What would a GCPA event be without networking?  You will have the opportunity to meet with many of your peers in the electric power and industrial sector all day, but plan on staying for the reception after the presentations.  Mix and mingle, make new contacts, re-establish former contacts, make post-event dinner plans to continue the conversations.

All of this is happening in Baton Rouge at the LSU Center for Energy Studies. A special thanks to the Center’s Executive Director David Dismukes for hosting this event. We hope you will join us.
