"Cyber Security Issues"

Our speakers Jon Shapiro, Director, Office of Research, The University of Texas at Dallas and Steve Bullitt, Special Agent, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secret Service will discuss the details from the National Cybersecurity Summit held at UT Dallas in February 2015. Over 21 federal agencies including the White House, FBI and Secret Service participated in the Summit and presented their opinions on current issues and responses to cybercrime and cyber terrorism. The presentation will focus on current policy issues facing industry, new regulatory initiatives, data privacy, international cooperation and the roles of the FBI and Justice department in working with industry on cybercrime.

Jon Shapiro currently works for the Office of Research at The University of Texas at Dallas as Director of Venture Development. Prior to his current position, Jon founded The Texas Institute in 2009 as a nonprofit research center focused on advanced energy technology and policy research. Before establishing The Texas Institute, Mr. Shapiro founded Alliance Systems, a communications, security and computing company. Under his leadership, the company grew from a self-funded startup to over $150 million in sales. The company was acquired in 2007. Mr. Shapiro has also served in management positions at IBM, ROLM Telecommunication, Intervoice, and Octel Communications. He is a recognized industry figure in the energy and technology industry and a business graduate of Hofstra University in New York.

Steve Bullitt began his career as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service on July 1995 and was selected as the Supervisor over the Dallas Field Office North Texas Electronic Crimes Task Force in January of 2010. In this capacity, Mr. Bullitt oversees a task force with over 25 Special Agents and Police Officers that partner with over 400 law enforcement, private sector and academia participants.
