“New Challenges & New Approaches: The World’s Largest Energized Transmission Project”

As the nation’s electrical transmission grid becomes more and more loaded, the ability to take sections out for maintenance or enhancement become much more difficult.  Utilities must consider approaches that would have seemed radical only a few years ago to implement transmission improvement projects that will sustain a future of uninterruptable electric service.  Our speaker, James Berger, will show us how AEP is certainly thinking (and doing) outside its traditional project solution box by recommending and constructing the World’s largest conductor upgrade on existing 345kV lines while the line remains in-service (energized). Berger’s presentation will explore the why’s and how’s for this ambitious project.
