"EPA's New Rules on Impingement and Entrainment: How Will They Affect the Power Sector?"

Many utility and manufacturing plants use cooling water intake structures to withdraw substantial amounts of water from nearby waterbodies for industrial cooling purposes.  In the process, fish and aquatic species may be impinged (sucked up against the intake structure screen) or entrained (sucked into the process).  EPA’s issuance of long-awaited final rules addressing impingement and entrainment is imminent.
