“Sharyland's Transition of Former Cap Rock Customers to Retail Electric Competition”

As part of acquisition of Cap Rock Energy in 2010, Sharyland Utilities was directed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas to study the possibility of transitioning the customers located in Cap Rock's bundled electric service territories to retail electric competition and to provide a plan for such a transition, which the PUCT ultimately approved in August 2012. Eighteen months later, Sharyland successfully transitioned these customers into retail electric competition throughout the month of May 2014. Our speaker BJ Flowers will share the details of this transition, including its successes and its challenges.

BJ has over thirty years’ experience in management, consulting, and information technology in the Electric, Oil and Gas, and Government sectors.  During 1999-2002, she worked with other ERCOT Market Participants on the design of the Retail Market for Electric Competition.  In addition to her work with RMS, TXSET, and Market Sync workshops, BJ was the first chair of the Commercial Operations Subcommittee.  During her tenure with a Retail Electric Provider, she was responsible for advocating initiatives in support of corporate goals utilizing relationship management. Her management experience includes implementing and supporting large and small CIS Systems, Web Technology, IVR, EDI, and Business Intelligence. BJ joined Sharyland Utilities, in the Spring of 2013 to lead their move to competition project.
