Austin August 2016 Luncheon

“Reacting to a Cyber-Attack: How to Investigate, Remediate, and Minimize Losses”

Please join us for a discussion of how companies can best respond to cyber-attacks. Among the topics:

  • How to investigate an attack while maintaining privilege
  • Fulfilling disclosure and related obligations that arise in the event of a breach
  • Minimizing the risk of further loss
Our speaker Emily Westridge Black is an Associate at the law firm of Haynes Boone. She has successfully represented prominent businesses and individuals on a range of issues, including data breach and cybersecurity, anti-corruption and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, securities regulation, antitrust, and class actions. Her efforts were recognized in 2015 when Chambers USA, Chambers & Partners, named her a top lawyer for Commercial Litigation in Texas. In recent data breach matters, Emily counseled a large specialty retailer and a prominent international hotel chain through the investigation, remediation, and disclosure of significant breaches of personally identifiable information (“PII”) and payment card information (“PCI”) and represented them in related disputes. She also investigated a series of spear-phishing attacks at a publicly traded oilfield services company and led the investigation of a data security breach at an IT services company. Emily received a B.A. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
